♰ St. Mark Coptic Church 11th Grade Lesson 4: Drama of Creation (Cont’d) Ψαλμός Left: Why do the nations rage, And why do the people imagine a vain thing? Right: The kings of the earth rise up, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed: “Let us break Their bonds asunder And cast away Their yokes from us.” Left: He who dwells in the heavens shall laugh them to scorn; The LORD shall have them in derision. Right: He shall speak to them in His wrath, And trouble them in His anger: “I was established as King by Him On His holy hill, Zion.” Left: “I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, Right: ‘You are My Son, Today have I begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. Left: You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’” Right: Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice in Him with trembling. Left: Kiss His Son, lest He be angry, And you perish from the way, For His wrath is quickly kindled. Right: Blessed are all who put their trust in Him. * * * “Cain Slays Abel” (Genesis 4) Characters (In order of appearance) Narrator Eve God Cain Lamech NARRATOR Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, EVE “I have acquired a man from the LORD.” NARRATOR Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. NARRATOR And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. NARRATOR And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. NARRATOR And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. So the LORD said to Cain, GOD “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” NARRATOR Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. NARRATOR Then the LORD said to Cain, GOD “Where is Abel your brother?” NARRATOR He said, CAIN “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” NARRATOR And He said, GOD “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground. So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond shall you be on the earth.” NARRATOR And Cain said to the LORD, CAIN “My punishment is greater than I can bear! Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me.” NARRATOR And the LORD said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” NARRATOR And the LORD set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him. NARRATOR Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. NARRATOR And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son—Enoch. NARRATOR To Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael, and Methushael begot Lamech. NARRATOR Then Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. NARRATOR And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute. NARRATOR And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah. NARRATOR Then Lamech said to his wives: LAMECH “Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; Wives of Lamech, listen to my speech! For I have killed a man for wounding me, Even a young man for hurting me. If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.” NARRATOR And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son, named him Seth, and said, EVE “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” NARRATOR And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. NARRATOR Then men began to call on the name of the LORD. The Genealogy of Adam (Genesis 5:1-5) NARRATOR This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. NARRATOR In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. NARRATOR He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created. And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.
